The 2009 Mentorship Grant Award winner is Justine Park, MD. Dr. Park is a junior faculty member at the University of Southern California’s Department of Dermatology and she holds the position of Director of Pediatric Dermatology at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA). “CHLA has a Vascular Anomalies Clinic and many of these patients would benefit from the treatment with the pulsed dye laser. [Currently,] we can only offer [the treatment] to those old enough to tolerate the procedure without sedation in a clinic setting. Thus many patients do not receive treatment that could potentially correct disfigurement from vascular lesions. This program would fulfill a large need in the community,” adds Park. “The purpose of my mentorship experience is to create an outpatient surgery practice that would allow |

| pediatric patients to receive treatment with the pulsed dye laser under general anesthesia in an operation room setting. The grant will fund a mentorship with Dr. Bari Cunningham at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego and allow me to experience the model set-up by Rady,” concludes Park. SPD wishes Dr. Park success in her mentorship experience and looks forward to her advancing patient care in the pediatric dermatology community. | ||
