Job Description:
The Kaplan-Amonette Department of Dermatology at the Univ. of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis offers a unique opportunity for an academic pediatric dermatologist. This is a full-time, tenure-track position (rank to be determined by credentials and experience). Candidates must be board-certified/board-eligible and fellowship training in pediatric dermatology is strongly desirable. With strong support from the University and our local dermatology community, dermatology at UTHSC has grown and was recently granted full department status. Our faculty now includes three academic dermatopathologists and five medical dermatologists. We seek a pediatric dermatologist to help care for our large, ethnically and financially diverse pediatric population. This position involves a joint appointment with the Department of Pediatrics, whose Chair, Dr. Jon McCullers, strongly supports this recruitment. Clinical work involves both outpatient and inpatient consultation services at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital; in addition, the faculty member would serve as the consulting dermatologist at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A candidate with an interest and/or expertise in the management of complex pediatric skin diseases, as well as infectious diseases or skin diseases in immunosuppressed children would be particularly attractive. Areas of active research focus at Le Bonheur include pediatric obesity and asthma, and research opportunities there or at St. Jude with start-up funding would be available for the right candidate. In addition, funding for a pediatric dermatology fellowship is potentially available. We have a long-standing, successful residency program (first established in 1967), and all faculty are active in resident and medical student education. Our new academic offices and primary clinical space are together on the medical center campus; the Memphis VA Medical Center, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and other regional hospitals are all within close proximity.
